If you are looking to take charge of your health and feel better every day, Healthy Habits is a program that will give you the information, tools and support you need to find success! This class meets twice per week. The first class will be a health topic discussion that will cover one of the 5 pillars of health: Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep, Stress Reduction, and Social Connection. The second class will be a group workout where new techniques are introduced each week.

  • Classes meet twice per week for 8 weeks (days and times are dependent on your location)
  • Classes are taught by certified Healthy Habits instructors
  • This program is offered at no cost thanks to our generous sponsors and includes an 8-week membership for the duration of the session

 
INTEREST FORM

the 5 core habits for healthy living

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

✔ 150-300 minutes of moderate or 75 – 150 min of vigorous intensity exercise per week
✔ Strength training 2-3 times/week

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

✔ Balanced meals following a plate model
✔ Paired snacks as needed to delay or alleviate hunger
✔ Drink 9-11 cups of water

SLEEP

✔ Sleep 7-9 hours each night
✔ Aim for quality – several bouts of 2-3 uninterrupted hours to complete sleep cycles

STRESS MANAGEMENT

✔ Raise awareness of sensations of stress in your body
✔ Evoke a relaxation response at least once each day

SOCIAL SUPPORT

✔ Seek and engage in positive social connections every day

PROGRAM DETAILS

The education and discussion group classes meet once per week and are team-taught by a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Personal Trainer or Health Coach. A variety of in-person exercise options are available at all of our YMCA of Greater Boston centers – one near you!
