GENERAL GUIDELINES

WELCOME!

Congratulations on making this commitment to YOU!

You have made a great choice to prioritize your health and wellbeing by enrolling in this program. We are excited to have you, and look forward to a fun and informative 10 weeks. Here are a few key items to keep in mind. Listed in the orange box at the bottom of the page are the weekly topics we’ll cover.

Program Goal
Participants will learn the 5 core healthy habits, and strategies to implement and sustain these practices – now, and over the course of a lifetime.

Program Materials
You can view all class materials right here on this site. If you’d like to print them out, the class pages are also available as PDFs.

Be Open
One of the foundations of this program is that there is no one right solution for everyone. In order to find what works for you, you will need to be willing to think in new ways and try new things.

Classes
This program includes two classes each week that meet for an hour each for 10 weeks. The first class is a topic presentation and discussion that meets virtually, and is co-led by a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Personal Trainer. The second class each week is an in-person progressive workout class offered at many of our branches. You select and register for each class separately when you enroll in the program. While we strongly encourage you to do both, you do not have to do the in-person class in order to the virtual education and discussion class.

Physical or Medical Conditions
Please let your instructors know about any conditions you may have – for your safety and so they are best able to help you. They are more than happy to help you find
exercises, classes or ideas that work for you, and can help you make modifications to ensure you are safe and comfortable. We also assume that you are consulting with your medical provider as needed.

Listen and Share
The best things happen when people come together in groups to tackle a challenge. Come to class ready to both listen and contribute to the discussion. The best classes are the ones that become robust and lively conversation where everyone participates.

Introductions
Time will be dedicated in the first class to allow staff and participants share their name, a bit about their backgrounds, what drew them to this class, and what they are hoping to get from participating in this program. Approximately 1-2 minutes per person.

Be committed to yourself and your group throughout these 10 weeks.
Don’t miss class, your group needs you! Working through challenges together is a key part of this class. We are not able to offer make-up sessions.

Questions
While you are always welcomed and encouraged to ask questions in class, it would be great if you could send along any questions you think of ahead of time prior to the discussion group class. You can email either instructor, or use the chat feature during class.

The 5 Core Healthy Habits Handout
Take some time to review. Think about where you are with respect to each of the core habits. Which ones seem easier or harder for you? What are your strengths and challenges? What would you like to work on? We will discuss together in our first discussion group.
