Membership Authorization & Billing
By providing bank account or credit card information, you authorize the YMCA of Greater Boston to initiate recurring payments for membership dues. These preauthorized debits constitute valid notice of payment.
- Memberships are continuous until canceled in writing, unless paid in full at time of purchase those are fixed term.
- Your account statement serves as your receipt.
- If a payment is declined, the balance remains due and payable to the YMCA.
- The YMCA may adjust membership rates with at least 30 days’ notice via email.
Failed Payments
- Returned payments will be automatically reprocessed.
- A $25 service fee will apply to each returned payment
- Memberships may be suspended or terminated after repeated failed payments.
- Accounts may be sent to collections if unpaid.
Membership Cancellation & Refunds
- 30-Day Guarantee: Memberships may be canceled within the first 30 days for a full refund, including joining fees.
- After 30 Days: A minimum of 15 days’ written notice is required prior to your next draft.
- Joining fees are non-refundable after 30 days.
Prorated Refunds may be issued in the event of:
- Death
- Permanent facility closure or discontinuation of services
Refunds will be processed within 15 business days of written notice.
Membership Holds
- Memberships may be placed on hold for up to 3 months per calendar year
- Holds must be requested in writing with 15 days advance notice prior to billing.
- Minimum hold: 30 days.
During a hold:
- Membership is inactive
- Member pricing is not available for programs
- Active program registrations are not permitted
Memberships automatically reactivate at the end of the hold period unless canceled with proper notice.
General Membership Policies
- Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable (outside stated conditions).
- Members must maintain a photo on file and scan in upon entry.
- Membership cards remain YMCA property; replacement fee applies.
- Members are expected to use their home branch at least 50% of visits
- Unused membership or program credits expire after one year.
- The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Code of Conduct
The YMCA is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all. Members and guests are expected to uphold the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Prohibited behaviors include (but are not limited to):
- Harassment, intimidation, or threatening behavior
- Abusive or inappropriate language
- Theft or destruction of property
- Use of drugs, alcohol, or smoking on YMCA property
- Carrying weapons
- Misuse of equipment or facilities
- Unauthorized guest access

- No cell phone use or photography in locker rooms, pools and pool areas, saunas, or steam rooms
- Photography is limited to designated areas and personal use only
Failure to comply may result in suspension or termination of membership.
Membership Termination by YMCA
The YMCA reserves the right to deny, suspend, or terminate membership for:
- Non-payment
- Violations of policies or Code of Conduct
- Behavior that threatens the safety or well-being of others
- Actions inconsistent with the YMCA mission
Safety & Child Protection
The YMCA conducts ongoing and regular screenings through a national sex offender database.
- Individuals identified as Level 2 or Level 3 offenders are denied access
- Valid government-issued photo ID is required for all adults (18+) to enter any YMCA facilities
- Access may be denied pending verification of screening results
Program Registration Policies (Including Private & Semi-Private Lessons, and Small Group Training)
- Member pricing requires active membership for the full program duration, meaning membership cannot have a cancellation date within the time of the program, nor may it be placed on hold during the program
- Annual liability waivers are required for all participants
- Participants under 18 require a parent/guardian signature
- Instructors may be reassigned as needed
- Late arrivals do not receive extended time
- Private and Semi Private Lessons: Sessions must be used within the designated program period (typically 8 weeks)
Program Waitlist
- No payment is required to join a waitlist
- If a spot opens, you will have 24 hours to register and pay to secure your spot
- Unclaimed spots will be offered to the next participant
Program Cancellations & Changes
The YMCA may cancel or adjust programs due to weather, safety concerns, or other circumstances.
- Make-up sessions will be offered when possible
Program Refunds & Credits
- Full refund if the YMCA cancels a program
- Full refund may be issued due to medical reasons
- Refund only if withdrawal occurs within 24 hours of the first class
- After the second class: no refunds
- Missed classes are not eligible for refunds or make-ups
Credits:
- Valid for future programs only
- Cannot be applied to membership dues
Personal Training Policies
- 24-hour cancellation required to reschedule
- Packages expire:
- 3 months (small packages)
- 5–10 months (larger packages)
- Sessions may be reassigned to another trainer if needed
- No refunds for unused sessions
- Refunds can be issued for medical reasons
- Partner training requires all participants to remain active
Private & Semi-Private Lessons
- 24-hour cancellation policy applies
- Late arrivals do not receive extended time
- Sessions must be used within the designated program period (typically 8 weeks)
- Limited extensions may be approved for medical or emergency reasons
- No refunds for missed sessions
- Instructors may be reassigned as needed
Recovery Room Use
Use of recovery equipment (massage, heat, cold therapy) should be approved by a physician if you have conditions including, but not limited to:
- Cardiovascular or circulatory issues
- Inflammation or joint conditions
- Skin infections or contagious illness
Lost & Found
- The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items
- General lost items are disposed of daily (except valuables)
- Valuables are securely stored for a limited time before disposal or transfer to authorities
- Camp/program items are held for approximately one week
Photo & Media Release
By participating in YMCA activities or visiting/utilizing a YMCA Facility, you grant permission for photos or videos to be used for promotional purposes.
Policy Updates
The YMCA reserves the right to update or modify policies at any time. Members will be notified of significant changes when applicable.
