Hyde Park, MA – June 20, 2012 – The YMCA of Greater Boston is pleased to welcome David Lawton as the new Executive Director of the Hyde Park YMCA. A sixteen year YMCA veteran, Lawton is committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Most recently the Executive Director and CEO of the Franklin County Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, Virginia, Lawton grew up going to YMCA summer camp in Richmond, VA. He later had the pleasure of running that same summer camp and also serving as an Executive Director for the YMCA of Greater Richmond. There, he was named to three Association-wide strategy teams: membership, child care, and day camp. Throughout his tenure with YMCAs in Virginia, Lawton substantially increased annual revenue and annual giving, allowing the Y to further serve over 39,000 members across the state.

This year, Hyde Park commemorates 100 years of being a part of the city of Boston, and Lawton is excited to be joining the Hyde Park YMCA which has served the community since 1896 when it was just an independent town: “I feel fortunate and blessed to be able to lead a Y that is a community hub and has such tremendous history,” he says.

According to Scott Smith, Hyde Park YMCA Board Chair, “the Board of Directors could not be more excited about having Dave lead our mission. His vast experience and bold vision will lead our YMCA to be truly impactful to the people we serve.”

The Hyde Park YMCA underwent extensive renovations and reopened in 2010. The newly renovated, fully handicapped-accessible building features a 6-lane 25-yard lap pool, Out of School Time and teen programs, and expanded health & wellness rooms that ensure programs and services for people of all ages and abilities.
