Two Strongmen Attempted to Lift the Cans Collected by YMCA of Greater Boston

On Wednesday, November 13th at the Dorchester Branch of the Y, Man vs. Can Event was held to celebrate the Y’s contribution to Mayor Menino’s CANshare Food Campaign. As part of the Mayor’s program to fight hunger, this Fall the YMCA of Greater Boston launched its” Get Fit, Give Back” Food Drive collecting nearly 12,000 non-perishable items of food.

In celebration of our success this year, Justin and Bear, two Strongmen tried to deadlift a vehicle filled with cans.  While many Y members and fans watched in anticipation, they succeed in lifting many boxes filled with cans of food!  To add to the celebration of the day, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Truck paid a visit and provided frozen yogurt to all.

Kevin Washington, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Boston said today, “he is proud to have been a major contributor to Mayor Menino’s Boston CANshare initiative.” Further, Washington “believes that making healthy foods more accessible to low-income Boston residents is an important priority for our community.”

In addition to celebrating the YMCA of Greater Boston’s support of the CANshare drive, we wanted to acknowledge Mayor Menino’s last year as Mayor and his tremendous support for 27 years collecting cans to help fight hunger in Boston.
