Are you ready to feel energized and in control of your lifestyle? Finding your answer can start with Vtrim @ the YMCA. The YMCA of Greater Boston now offers Vtrim Online to members of our YMCA community and community-at-large, giving all the opportunity to change their behaviors toward sustainable weight management through a clinically-proven approach.

Vtrim Online is a 12-week weight management program developed at the University of Vermont by Jean Harvey-Berino, Ph.D., R.D., a nationally recognized weight-loss researcher. Her concept is based on behavior changes: a systematic shaping of daily habits to help people move more and eat less. The majority of Vtrim graduates achieve a clinically-meaningful weight loss of at least 5-10 percent (which translates to 1-2 pounds per week), significantly impacting disease risk associated with excess weight.

Meet our own Jerri Pratt, left.  Jerri is one of the online Vtrim trainers and would really like to work with you!  She can be reached via email or at 617.927.8080.  Jerri has a BS in Human Nutrition from the University of Massachusetts and is the Health and Wellness Director for the YMCA of Greater Boston.  Jerri coordinates evidence-based medical and health programs for all 13 YMCA facilities and has been a Vtrim facilitator since 2008.

Why Vtrim? It’s a program that delivers proven results backed by science. It also takes place completely online, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.  The YMCA provides the infrastructure for Vtrim participants to succeed at their exercise goals for weight loss.  It also adds a face-to-face complement to the online program.

 

Vtrim Online will be $329 for YMCA members and $429 for non-members. Classes will start on February 23 and 25, 2010.  The YMCA will extend a free three-month individual membership with Vtrim Online enrollment. Those who are already members will receive an individual membership credit for three months.

  • Get Armed to Combat Weight Gain. Vtrim arms participants with the tactics and knowledge to combat weight gain and stay healthy long-term through behavior modification. Over 12 weeks, participants receive education and support from a trained expert facilitator who guides them on a path to a healthier lifestyle.
  • Get Exercising for FREE. The YMCA will extend a free three-month individual membership with Vtrim Online enrollment. Those who are already members will receive an individual membership credit for three months. Start moving today! Participants are also eligible for free enrollment in the “Get Started” program, a series of three personal wellness coaching sessions.
  • Get Smart to Get Fit. Through Vtrim, you will learn about portion control, how to read and understand nutrition information, how to reduce barriers to physical activity and how to create an environment where successful weight management is possible.
  • Get Support and Motivation. We all know it’s hard to lose weight alone. Vtrim Online provides you with a trained expert facilitator who meets with you in a weekly online class where you are joined by 20 peers who are also on a weight loss journey. The class is taught via a text-based chat room.  Facilitators also provide expert weekly feedback on your journal entries, reinforcing behavior change and providing accountability and encouragement.
  • Get Digital to Track Your Progress. Vtrim makes tracking your progress easy with a dashboard of digital tools all at your fingertips 24/7. You have access to an online food journal, where you can keep track of what you eat, look up calories and fat grams, and store foods eaten frequently in a virtual pantry.
