"They made me realize how appreciative I am of camp and the little wonders that make camp come alive, like rainy day activities, tie-dying t-shirts with my cabin, and especially the all-camp lip sync. It's the little activities that create the best memories, and these small wonders that make camp special."

"When I was a C.I.T., I wanted nothing more than to be in the cabins with the campers. So, when I was scheduled for rock duty, I was more than willing to help with D.I.V.E., the nightly reflection question the counselor asks to her cabin.

One night my fellow C.I.T., Catherine, and I were both scheduled to be on rock duty, but we decided that our reflection time would not be in the form of a question. We wanted to make it a more special activity. To make it exciting, we dressed up in all black and pretended to "kidnap" the campers in their cabins.

We got them out of their beds and into their sneakers, and told them that they were going somewhere else for D.I.V.E. Quietly in single-file, with Catherine in the front of the line and with me in back of the line, we led them through the Senior Village, past the office, and up the road a bit to this new place that Catherine and I had suitably named "Firefly Field." It was a field filled with thousands of fireflies; it was like the dark night sky overflowing with the twinkling stars had lowered itself onto this field.

Catherine and I had the campers sit in a circle, facing outward toward the fireflies, as we played "These Small Wonders" by Rob Thomas on our iPod. When the song was over, we had the girls turn back into the circle and share what they were thinking as they were looking at the small wonders of the field.

The answers were truly insightful and mature, coming from young girls who were maybe 13 or 14. They made me realize how appreciative I am of camp and the little wonders that make camp come alive, like rainy day activities, tie-dying t-shirts with my cabin, and especially the all-camp lip sync. It's the little activities that create the best memories, and these small wonders that make camp special."
