New Board Officers Named for 2010
New leadership includes venture capitalist, public service and healthcare leaders
BOSTON (December 30, 2009) – The YMCA of Greater Boston announced today that five new experienced and respected leaders have been elected to serve as officers to its General Board including incoming Chairman John Conley, Vice-Chair Patricia S. Bellinger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nordic Windpower Inc; Vice-Chair Eileen Connors, long time community volunteer; Vice-Chair Brian Kavoogian, Founder and President of Charles River Realty Investors and Treasurer Jeff Conway, Executive Vice President and head of State Street’s Investment Manager Services Business Unit.
“We are at an exciting time in our history with the Hyde Park YMCA under construction and an active capital campaign to support the redevelopment West Roxbury YMCA and the development of a new state-of-the-art YMCA on the Rose Kennedy Greenway,” said John Ferrell, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Boston. “These five newly elected officers are talented individuals who will bring strong leadership, business acumen and innovation to the YMCA. I look forward to working with each of them as well as the entire board as we continue to serve as the largest provider of social services in the Commonwealth.”
The YMCA of Greater Boston’s General Board of Directors enables the Y to grow and effectively speak to the current issues and needs of Boston and its surrounding communities by providing invaluable assets in the strategic planning and implementation of key short and long term initiatives designed to support youth development, healthy lifestyles, and social responsibility.
Conley is a Partner and co-founder of Gilliam Capital, a life-science investment firm in Concord, Massachusetts. He has spent several years in the biotechnology industry. He was VP of Business Development at Transkaryotic Therapies, and a co-founder of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. During his ten years at Biogen-IDEC, Conley served in several marketing, business development, sales and finance positions, including Treasurer. Conley graduated with a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Conley joined the YMCA of Greater Boston Board of Directors in 2000.
Bellinger is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nordic Windpower Inc., a leading manufacturer of two-bladed wind turbines with headquarters in Berkeley, CA. A graduate of Harvard, Bellinger is a non-executive director of Sodexho Alliance SA, one the largest food service and facilities management companies in the world, headquartered in Paris. Until 2007, Bellinger served as one of the top forty executives at BP plc. Bellinger’s leadership, BP was awarded the prestigious Catalyst Award for measurable results in the advancement of women in business and for the corporation’s successful global diversity strategy. Bellinger is an internationally recognized expert who speaks on diversity, equality and leadership development.
Connors is a former psychiatric social worker. She has served as a foster care and adoption worker, a college counselor, and a therapist. She is a member of the R.O.S.E. Fund, and is co-chair of the Advisory Board of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. She has been involved with many nonprofit organizations including the Leukemia Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Task Force on Women and Boston College. A double Eagle, Connors received her BA in Education and Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. She has served on the YMCA board since 1997.
Kavoogian is the Founder and President of Charles River Realty Investors. He is a Trustee of Tufts University and an Overseer of the Tisch College at Tufts. Kavoogian is also a Trustee of the Park School and serves on the Board of Overseers of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He is the President-Elect of the local chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. Kavoogian is a past Chairman of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and a past Director of the Massachusetts Development Finance Authority. Brian received his BA from Tufts University in 1984. He joined the YMCA of Greater Boston Board of Directors in 2001, and he is the immediate past Treasurer.
Conway is Executive Vice President and head of State Street’s Investment Manager Services Business Unit focused on investment manager operations outsourcing and the integration of new large mandates. In addition, Conway leads the relationship management and ongoing service delivery for State Street’s large operations outsourcing customers. Conway joined State Street in 1987 and held several senior managerial positions in the U.S. Mutual Fund group. He joined the YMCA board in 2005.
