[Needham, MA, February 13, 2013] – The Charles River YMCA – a leading nonprofit that strengthens community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility – is proud to offer LIVESTRONG at the YMCA this spring.  The twelve week program is designed for adult cancer survivors, including those currently in treatment and those who have been out of treatment for years. It begins Monday, February 25 and meets twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:30pm. LIVESTRONG is free of charge for participants and open to both Y members as well as those not currently members of the Y. For more information or to join the LIVESTRONG program contact Liz Gregg at egregg@ymcaboston.org.

The Charles River YMCA has a wide variety of programs to promote healthy lifestyles through nurturing the mind, body and spirit.  These programs promote education and healthier decisions, providing physical support and intellectual strength.  “It was so nice to be among others dealing with one form of Cancer or another but all there with the same purpose: to get our minds and bodies back on the track to Wellness,” said ovarian cancer survivor, Mary Bowers.  “It was a wonderful 12 week journey and with the encouragement and support of our two awesome instructors, Liz Gregg and Judi Brady, it was a great jump-start journey and I was sad to see the 12 week program end.”  The LIVESTRONG program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their "new normal".  The program is conducted at Charles River YMCA to emphasize that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is about health, not disease.
