Dear Friend,

Each year, the Y supports more than 100,000 people. Together, in the communities we serve, we encourage youth development, promote healthy living and foster social responsibility. During 2011, our Y took bold steps to further our resolve to strengthen the foundations of community. The Y’s General Board of Directors worked together to create a new strategic vision that propels our Y as a cornerstone of social change, leading individuals and families of all backgrounds and at all stages of life to learn, thrive and improve our community

Last year, our Y increased the number of people we served by nearly 10%.

Last year, our Y increased the number of people we served by nearly 10%. And we had over 1.5 million member visits during the year. Our General Board voted to roll back membership pricing across the Association so that more individuals, families and seniors can be active in their neighborhoods. As a result, we anticipate providing even more children and families with access to the support they need to succeed.

At the YMCA of Greater Boston, we value and respect every child. We believe that helping children grow from loving infants to curious elementary school age kids to independent young adults is one of the most important ways the Y can help create a better, stronger community. This year, we created a new Y branch focused on helping Boston Public Schools (BPS) address the achievement gap with elementary school aged children. And, we partnered with BPS and Boston After School & Beyond to combat summer learning loss through a promising Y-pilot program during day camp.

Thanks to your support, we are lucky and honored, to work with parents, grandparents, educators, health care professionals, mentors, volunteers and many more to help those in our community learn, grow and thrive.

Best regards,

John G. Conley
Chairman of the Board
