Through its Give Summer Program initiative, the YMCA of Greater Boston invests over $1.5 million to ensure that 25,000 children across greater Boston have access to enriching and transformative summer programs, facilities that stay open late, and supportive, caring adults as teachers, guides and mentors.
Thousands of families living in greater Boston simply can’t afford summer. Academic research strongly suggests that students’ basic reading and math skills suffer during the summer and that the skills gap widens over the summer months. Children from affluent families maintain their pace while children from disadvantaged families fall further behind.
During these months, children from affluent families benefit from summer enrichment programs and books around the house. They also benefit, more broadly, from the advantages of having parents with the resources, knowledge and time to intellectually engage them.
Too many children and teens will spend this summer home alone in unstructured activities. Together with the Y, you have the opportunity to change that and ensure that every child and teen has access to a wonderful, enriching summer.
Help the YMCA of Greater Boston provide a fun, safe and transformative summer for children and teens in greater Boston by donating to our Give Summer initiative
"Investments in the Y, and the summer programs they offer, are one of the best ways to build healthier and stronger communities."
-William Evans, Boston Police Commissioner
